Music Story MCP
Music Story offers a plug-and-play MCP server, ready to be connected to your agent of choice (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, ...).
It gives your AI assistant read access to the Music Story catalog, using your own API rights and quota.
- Server URL:
https://mcp.music-story.com/mcp(Streamable HTTP) - Authentication: sign in with your Metadata Monitor account (OAuth), or use one of your API keys
- Read-only: no tool modifies any data
Quick Start
Add the server to your client, then ask a question about the catalog.
- Claude.ai / Claude Desktop
- ChatGPT
- Claude Code
- Cursor
- VS Code
- Open Settings › Connectors and click Add custom connector.
- Name it
Music Storyand enter the URLhttps://mcp.music-story.com/mcp. - Click Connect, then sign in with your Metadata Monitor account and accept the access request.
- Open Settings › Apps & Connectors and enable Developer mode (under Advanced settings) if your plan requires it.
- Click Create, name it
Music Storyand enter the URLhttps://mcp.music-story.com/mcp, with OAuth authentication. - Sign in with your Metadata Monitor account and accept the access request.
claude mcp add --transport http music-story https://mcp.music-story.com/mcp
Then run /mcp in Claude Code, select music-story and sign in with your Metadata Monitor account.
To use an API key instead of signing in:
claude mcp add --transport http music-story https://mcp.music-story.com/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in your project):
{
"mcpServers": {
"music-story": {
"url": "https://mcp.music-story.com/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
}
}
}
}
Add the server to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace:
{
"servers": {
"music-story": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.music-story.com/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
}
}
}
}
Your API keys are listed in the Metadata Monitor. Keep them out of shared or versioned files.
Let your agents set it up for you
Copy this prompt and give it to your coding agent (Claude Code, Cursor, ...):
Set up the Music Story MCP server for me.
- Server: https://mcp.music-story.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP transport)
- Authentication: use OAuth if this client supports it. Otherwise, ask me for my
Music Story API key and send it as the header "Authorization: Bearer <key>".
Never write the key to a file that is versioned or shared.
- Detect which client you are running in (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, ...) and add
the server to its MCP configuration.
- Once connected, call the get_account_status tool to check that it works and
tell me my remaining daily quota.
- Documentation: https://doc.music-story.com/mcp
What you can do
Ask your question in plain language: your assistant picks the right tools on its own.
- Match a playlist or broadcast log to the catalog, with ISRC and Music Story IDs. "Find the ISRC of each track in this list: (paste the list)"
- Identify a code or a link: ISRC, EAN/UPC, ISWC, ISNI, IPI, or a Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music or MusicBrainz link. "Which album is this ISRC on: (paste an ISRC)?"
- Profile an artist: biography, discography, pictures, popularity. "Give me a short profile of Daft Punk with their studio albums."
- Break down rights: writers, composers and publishers of works and recordings. "Who wrote and published the songs in this playlist? (paste the list)"
- Explore popularity and charts by genre, country, year or month. "Give me the top 10 most popular rock artists in France right now."
- Get recommendations from tracks or artists. "Recommend 10 tracks similar to 'Get Lucky' by Daft Punk."
Prompts
Ready-made workflows, shown as slash commands in clients that support them (Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, ...).
| Prompt | Input | What you get |
|---|---|---|
match_tracklist | One "Artist - Title" per line | A table with ISRC, Music Story ID and match confidence for each line |
rights_breakdown | A chart and a date, or a list of songs | The share of each right owner (publishers, writers) across the songs |
artist_profile | An artist name or ID | Identity, career, studio albums and popularity |
identify | An ISRC, EAN/UPC, ISWC, ISNI, IPI or platform link | What it refers to, with its key data |
Access, rights and limits
- Your rights apply. Every call uses one of your API keys, so your subscription rights and daily quota apply exactly as with the API. Ask your assistant for your remaining quota at any time.
- Data outside your subscription is reported as unavailable, with the name of the missing option, instead of failing the whole answer.
- Lists are truncated to 10 items to keep answers short. The assistant is told the real size of each list.
- OAuth sign-in creates an API key named AI assistant (MCP) in your Metadata Monitor account. It is reused for all your MCP calls.
- To revoke access, revoke the OAuth authorization in your AI client. Deleting the AI assistant (MCP) key is not enough: it is created again at the next call while the authorization is valid.
